The Association was founded in 1965 by the Ikebana teachers of five schools - saga, ikenobo, sogetsu, adachi and ohara, in the Vancouver area.
The goals of the Association are to promote the art of Japanese flower arranging by having displays and demonstrations for the general public and to encourage them to take lessons.
Five schools are active in the Lower Mainland at present - Ikendobo, Sogotsu, Sangetsu, Kado-sumi and Ohara. We have an annual spring show at Oakridge Auditorium with demonstrations and a Thanksgiving display at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden in Chinatown. We usually have a display at the Powell Street Festival and Point Grey Chrysanthemum Association's two chrysanthemum shows each year. We have also participated in 'Cherry Zen', the Orchid Grower's Show and Burnaby's Rhododenron Festival.
